Guwahati, Feb 19: Assam Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) summoned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday. The summon comes while he is on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh.
Reports suggest that the Wayanad MP is to appear before the CID at their Guwahati office in Ulubari on February 23. Senior Congress leaders including Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal, and Jitendra Singh Alwar were also summoned.
Youth Congress national president BV Srinivas and NSUI in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar were issued summons too. Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and Assam Assembly opposition leader Debabrata Saikia were also summoned.
Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar and Ramen Sarma were instructed to appear before the CID in Guwahati. The summons are linked to charges of vandalism during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s Assam leg that started on January 18.
All summoned Congress leaders have been asked to be present at 11:30 am on February 23 at the Guwahati CID office.
