Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Projects Worth Rs. 661.03 Crore In Kamrup (Metro)

Projects Inaugurated As Sequel To BJP’s ‘Bikash Yatra’

GUWAHATI, March 2: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated and performed bhumi pujan for different projects worth Rs. 661.03 crore for Kamrup (metropolitan) district at different programmes held across the city.

As part of the state government’s initiatives to bolster infrastructural development of the state, it has ushered in a ‘Bikash Yatra’ that began on February 29 and will continue till March 13. As part of this yatra the CM inaugurated different projects involving a financial outlay of Rs. 598.03 crore and performed Bhumi Pjuan for projects worth Rs. 63 crore.

The projects that Sarma inaugurated are State Cancer Institute, Guwahati involving an outlay of Rs. 395 crore, an art model blood centre with a budgetary cost of 3.88 crore, a Kar Bhawan worth Rs. 122 crore, a night shelter for building and construction workers worth Rs. 15 crore, the expanded capacity of Purabi Dairy Plant at Panjabari with an outlay of Rs. 49 crore and PET CT scan facility at Dr. B. Baruah Cancer Institute worth 13.15 crore. The projects for which the CM performed Bhumi Pujan are Umananda Modular Terminal- IWT at Umananda Ghat involving a budgetary provision of Rs. 56 crore and a patient guest house at GMCH for Tea Tribes and Adivashi community worth Rs. 7 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma said that ever since the present state government has assumed power, it has been its relentless commitment to bring about paradigm shift in the development of the state. It has also been working to lend qualitative changes to the lives of the people living across the length and breadth of the state. He said that right from health, education to roads in all sectors there has a perceptible change to lead people’s lives to betterment.

He said that health and wellness has been a priority area for the government. Therefore, the state government, with an intention of creating an advanced, accountable and accessible health care facility, ventured into a mission of bringing about a paradigm shift in the health care delivery system across the state. He said that for creating an advanced cancer care system in the state, his government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tata Trusts on February 3, 2018. To implement the project, a Special Purpose Vehicle – Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) was formed. Accordingly decision was taken to set up 17 cancer care institutes with an apex referral centre at State Cancer Institute, Guwahati (L1), five number of Comprehensive Cancer Care Centres (‘L2s’) at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Silchar, Diphu and Dhubri and 11 numbers of Diagnostic and Day Care Clinics (‘L3s’) at Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Darrang, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Nalbari, Nagaon, Sibsagar and Goalpara.

He said that with an investment over Rs. 3600 crore, the state government is building a world class cancer care network in the state. He also announced that state government will also introduce Proton Beam Therapy in the state to facilitate advanced and targeted cancer treatment. His government with the help of the Centre is working very dedicatedly to make Assam a state for ‘medical tourism’ with all advanced medical facilities to cater not only to the patients of Northeast but, also South East Asian countries. There are also efforts to make Dr. B. Baruah Cancer Institute a centre of excellence where patients are able to get innovative treatment facilities without having to go outside the state.

Stating that rural economy is intrinsically associated with milk production, the chief minister said that the state government with the help of the National Dairy Development Board has made a roadmap for production of 10 lakh litres milk on a daily basis. Along with NDDB, the state government has constituted the North East Dairy and Foods Limited to provide superior quality cows to the agripreneurs. He also said that in line with the expanded capacity of Purabi Dairy Plant, similar projects will be implemented in Jorhat and Dibrugarh and for the same funds will be released very soon.

The Chief Minister also said that the from now onwards government offices will be equipped with power saving tools and except offices performing emergency services, electricity to other office buildings after a certain fixed time in the evening will be disconnected to be restored again next day morning. This move will help the government to curb electricity wastage. He said that already 232 offices in the state have been equipped with the system.

Shelter houses for construction workers will be built in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. Speaking on the skill development centres set up in association with L&T at  Kokrajhar and Dhemaji, he said that similar such centre will be established Nalbari.
