Guwahati , Nov 25:Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assembly on November 25 that one of the accused directly killed Zubeen Garg while the others supported him, calling it a clear case of murder. He said the charge was added within two days of the FIR as early findings pointed towards deliberate involvement, prompting the government to seek inclusion of Section 103 of the BNS, which the court accepted.
Zubeen died on September 19 while swimming in Singapore, where he had travelled to attend the North East India Festival. Among those arrested are festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, along with five others. All seven are in judicial custody as the investigation continues.

Sarma said the motive centres around money and that the probe stretches back to events before the Covid period. He explained that the case involves two angles — murder, and a separate line linked to negligence and criminal breach of trust. He said that even after the murder chargesheet is filed, the investigation will widen its scope to uncover every detail, adding that no one involved will be spared.
The chief minister confirmed that the chargesheet will be submitted by December 8. After that, the government plans to seek a fast-track court and appoint a special public prosecutor to ensure swifter proceedings.
The case continues to attract massive public attention, with calls for justice growing louder as new revelations emerge.
