Guwahati, Nov 03: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pushed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to fast-track its report on the death of singer Zubeen Garg, setting a new deadline of December 8, nine days ahead of the original target.
Sarma, speaking at a press briefing, said the earlier submission date was December 17, but the state government wanted no further delay. “The chargesheet into the probe for Zubeen’s murder case should have been given by December 17, but I have given a new target of December 8. We are ready from all sides,” he said.
He explained that procedural formalities have slowed the process, as the case involves events that took place abroad. Before the SIT can file the chargesheet, permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is required. Sarma added that he had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to expedite the approval. “In the next three to four days, the SIT will write to the MHA, and we expect to file the chargesheet between December 7 and 10,” he stated.
