GUWAHATI, March 21: In a resolute declaration, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pledged to rid the nation of terrorism under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This assertion comes in the wake of a significant breakthrough by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police, which culminated in the apprehension of two high-ranking ISIS leaders in Assam’s Dhubri district.

Reacting to a pivotal announcement from the Assam Police, Sarma articulated, “We shall continue our fight against the fundamentalists and eradicate terrorism from the soil of our nation under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister @narendramodi. Thank you, @assampolice.”

The captured individuals have been identified as Haris Farooqi, alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi, the head of ISIS operations in India, and his associate Anurag Singh, alias Rehan.

The meticulously executed operation was spearheaded by Parthasarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police (STF), and Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police (STF).

Mahanta revealed that intelligence provided by sister agencies indicated the duo’s plans to infiltrate India via the Dhubri Sector for nefarious activities. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, an STF team was dispatched to locate and apprehend the suspects.
After an intensive manhunt in the international border area, Farooqi and Singh were intercepted in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri in the early hours of March 20. They were swiftly brought to the STF office in Guwahati for further proceedings.

Identified as Haris Farooqi, son of Ajmal Farooqi from Chakrata, Dehradun, and Anurag Singh, son of Manbir Singh from Diwana, Panipat, the duo was deeply entrenched in ISIS activities. Their involvement spanned recruitment, terror funding, and planning of terror acts using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across India. With pending cases with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi, and Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) in Lucknow, among others, the STF, Assam, is poised to hand them over to the NIA for further legal proceedings.

The capture of these high-ranking ISIS leaders represents a significant victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism.

Chief Minister Sarma’s unwavering commitment, echoed by the diligent efforts of law enforcement agencies, underscores the nation’s determination to root out extremism and preserve peace and security for all citizens.
