GUWAHATI, Jan 30: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has arrested Assam Excise Department Secretary, ACS Indreswar Kalita, following raids at his residence in Guwahati, a press release said on Thursday.
The action was taken in connection with a complaint regarding alleged disproportionate assets.

Acting on complaint number 2/24, the Vigilance Cell conducted a raid at Kalita’s flat in Nirvana Apartment, Sundarpur, on Tuesday.
Investigators suspect that he possesses assets far exceeding his known sources of income, with reports indicating ownership of land and other properties in Beltola and Bhetapara.
Following his arrest, Kalita was taken for a medical examination before being lodged at Panbazar Police Station.
Further investigations are underway to assess the full extent of his alleged illicit assets.
