Tezpur, May 18: Along with other parts of the state, the entire Tezpur city and the surrounding areas have also been badly hit by flood water which was caused due to incessant rain. The rising water levels of various rivers and tributaries including Ghagra, Depota and Gabharu river have already submerged many areas, hectares of agricultural lands, public dwellings and different public institutions under Bahbari, Bihaguri, Bandarmari, Depota, Khelmati area causing great threat to the people and the animals of the areas.
In the Bihaguri area, flood water flowed over NH-15 on Monday night creating disruption and tremendous problems for traffic and the people of the locality. The Brahmaputra Public School, Srimanta Sankardev Jatiya Vidyalaya and several other educational institutions in the Bihaguri area are currently under water. The unprecedented floods have already uprooted some of the tall trees standing beside NH-15. Affected families of Bahbari are now taking shelter in local schools. Meanwhile, the Goroimari area near here is also affected by flood water. The water level of several rivers has gradually increased and the water in Jia Bharali river is reported to be flowing above the danger level mark.
