NAGAON, Dec 5: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, during the concluding leg of his two-day visit to Nagaon, paid obeisance to Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev at Batadraba Than, Batadraba. He also reviewed the progress of the Batadraba Than development project and held discussions with the concerned functionaries.
After offering his prayers at the Than, the Governor explored various aspects of the project, which aims to transform Batadraba Than into a significant tourist hub and cultural center. Expressing his vision, the Governor remarked that the site holds immense cultural importance for Assam and is poised to attract a large number of devotees in the future. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of the grand project and inquired about its expected completion date. He also instructed PWD officials to expedite the work so that the center can be dedicated to devotees at the earliest.
Officials briefed him about various amenities under development, including a 500-seat yoga garden, a skill development center, a research center, a digital library, a kala kendra, and a Nat Ghar. The Governor appreciated the traditional interior design, which highlights the teachings and cultural contributions of Srimanta Sankardev, reflecting the Than’s deep-rooted spiritual heritage and cultural significance. The Governor also visited the Maha Mrityunjay Temple and offered his puja there.
As part of his tour, Governor Acharya also visited the Srimanta Sankardev Mission Blind School at Barhampur, where he interacted with the students. While speaking to them, the Governor commended their potential and observed that with proper guidance and compassion, Divyangjans can achieve extraordinary feats. He further emphasised the collective responsibility required to foster an inclusive environment where Divyangjans feel empowered and integral to society.
Later, the Governor held a review meeting with the district administration and department heads of Nagaon. He reviewed the progress of various schemes implemented by the central and state governments. He also inspected the works under the Amrit Sarovar project and instructed the concerned functionaries to take steps for plantation, waiting sheds, installation of solar lights, and flagpole installation at all project sites.
Additionally, he reviewed the progress of works under other departments, including the Agricultural Department, P&RD Department, Fisheries Department, PWD, Social Forestry, PHE, and the Education Department.
Transport minister Keshab Mahanta and local MLAs accompanied the Governor during the visit.
