SIVASAGAR, Feb 1: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a significant stride in preserving Assam’s cultural legacy by inaugurating the “Bhumipujan” and “Aai leng din puja” ceremonies for the Rang Ghar beautification project here in Sivasagar on Thursday.
Covering an extensive area of over 83 bighas with an allocated budget of Rs 32 crore, the initiative is anticipated to be completed within a span of two years.
Addressing a massive gathering, the chief minister delved into the historical significance of Rangpur, the erstwhile capital founded by Swargadeo Rudra Singha.
He also emphasised his government’s commitment to transform Sivasagar from a tranquil temple town into a prominent tourist center.
The CM outlined various ongoing projects, including the upgraded Sivasagar University, Sivasagar Medical College, a proposed park on the eastern bank of Sivasagar Borpukhuri, and beautification endeavors focused on Ahom-era monuments.
These initiatives, along with the proposal for Charaideo to attain UNESCO Site status, aim to elevate the undivided Sivasagar district’s prominence on a national scale.
Sarma further announced the commencement of construction for Sivasagar Medical College in the upcoming month and the ongoing progress of the Rs 187 crore Nazira-Sivasagar road. Additional plans include relocating Sivasagar Jail, creating a modern park, and rebuilding the Circuit House to reflect the district’s rich culture and heritage.
Reflecting on the achievements of the past three years, the chief minister expressed optimism about Assam’s future, envisioning it as the number one state in India. He highlighted the transformative impact of the Charaideo Mega Heritage Project and Rang Ghar Beautification Project on the state’s development.
The event witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including guardian minister and education minister Dr Ranuj Pegu, who delivered the welcome address.
On the occasion, Pramatta Singha, credited with rebuilding Rangghar in 1746, was acknowledged for his historical contribution.
Minister Jogen Mohan thanked Sarma for spearheading the massive beautification initiative, while Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi praised the chief minister’s leadership and foresight.
On the other hand, Akhil Gogoi, Sivasagar MLA, expressed gratitude for the project, declaring it a landmark day for modern Sivasagar.
Other notable figures, including Sushanta Borgohain, MLA Thowra, and Bhubon Gam, Majuli MLA, lauded the Sarma for transformative additions to modern Sivasagar.
