Assam: Kamrup district administration issues guidelines for Diwali, details inside

Guwahati, Nov 8: The Kamrup Metro District Administration declared several new guidelines on November 8, related to Diwali celebrations this year. This step was taken in order to ensure a safe and pollution-free Diwali.

The meeting was conducted by Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kamrup Metro, with other district officials. A prohibition on bursting sound emitting fire-crackers from 10 pm to 8 am has been imposed across the district.

The production, sale and use of fire-crackers generating noise level over 125 dB(Al) or 145 dB(C)pk at 4-meter distance from the points of bursting are also banned. In addition, only green crackers can be burst in Assam, while the sale of other types of fire crackers has been banned. T

he sale and bursting of crackers is permitted only for two hours, from 8 pm to 10 pm, during Diwali. On the other hand, during Chatt Puja, the bursting of crackers is allowed from 6 am to 8 am.

During the upcoming festival, the bursting of crackers in silent zones such as the Gauhtai High Court, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Assam Secretariat, and so on, has been prohibited. Additionally, there are restrictions on the sale of high sounding and clandestinely imported fireworks.

Only the sale of Indian Origin Green Crackers is allowed. Licensees are obligated to comply with all orders from the Supreme Court of India, Pollution Control Board, Assam, the National Green Tribunal, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. Any violation of these orders will result in the licensee being held accountable. The Kamrup ADC has made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone who disobeys these rules.
