Assam: Names of recipients for state’s highest civilian awards announced by CM Sarma

Guwahati, Jan 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the recipients of Assam’s highest civilian awards for 2023 on Tuesday.

The awards include the Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav. Former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, is set to receive the Assam Baibhav Award 2023 in the field of law and justice.

Gogoi, who served as the 46th Chief Justice of India, is the first judge from Northeast India to occupy that position. He currently serves as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, a position he assumed after nomination by President Ram Nath Kovind on 16 March 2020.

The Assam Government has chosen 22 civilians to be honoured with these prestigious awards in various fields.
