Guwahati , 21 Oct: The Nimna Jatha Sewa Society of Assam has announced a special Diwali initiative to honour the late singer Zubeen Garg. As part of the celebrations, the society will distribute free khichdi to the public, offering a simple gesture of remembrance during the festival.
In addition, the organisation has launched a plantation drive aiming to plant 38,000 trees across Assam, reflecting Garg’s longstanding support for environmental causes. Amandeep Singh, representing the society, called on government agencies and citizens to join the effort and ensure the success of the initiative.

Singh emphasised Garg’s commitment to nature, saying the plantation drive will continue his legacy. He also paid tribute to Assam’s cultural icons, noting, “We feel proud that personalities like Zubeen Garg and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika were born in Assam. They taught us humanity and the true meaning of ‘Manuh a manuhor babe’.”
