Assamese science fiction researcher felicitated

DIBRUGARH, April 23: Dr Nabajyoti Dutta, the pioneer of research work on Assamese science fiction short stories was felicitated by the DHSK Commerce College unit of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) here for achieving a doctoral degree from Gauhati University on August 30, 2021. Dr Dutta, HoD and assistant professor in the department of Assamese in the college carried out his research on the topic ‘Uttar-Swadheenata Kaalor Asomeeya Bigyan-Bhittik Kalpa-Chutigalpa: Ek Bishleshanatmak Adhyayan’ (Post Independence Assamese Science Fiction Short Stories: An Analytical Study). It would be noteworthy that the research work has dealt with almost every short story of the genre in Assamese including writers Hariprasad Baruah, Nagendra Narayan Choudhury, Saurabh Kumar Chaliha, Bhabendra Nath Saikia, Bijoy Krishna Sarma, Dinesh Chandra Goswami, Kshiradhar Baruah, Santanoo Tamuly, Bandita Phukan, Rathindranath Goswami, Bhaskar Thakuria, etc. The stories are selected based on the plots with futuristic science which deals with possibility as well as plausibility of advancement of science and technology in different spheres in the future.
Dr Satya Ranjan Doley, an assistant professor in the department of Accountancy of the institution was also felicitated in the function for his achievement of doctoral degree from Dibrugarh University on the topic ‘Role of Microfinance Service Providers in Women Empowerment with Special Reference to SHGs in Dibrugarh district, Assam’ way back in 2018. His felicitation program couldn’t be performed timely due to unavoidable reasons including Covid-19 situation.
Both the achievers delivered brief speeches in the function explaining their journey in the field of the research activities.
Dr Mintu Kumar Das, secretary of the unit, in the function, welcomed Pallavi Kashyap, assistant professor in the department of Banking as a new member of the organisation. In response, Kashyap expressed her gratitude to the members of the unit. The function chaired by Dr Satya Ranjan Doley, president of the unit also discussed the forthcoming international workshop on film-making to be held in the college with co-operation from the ACTA, Central Committee.
Dr Bhupesh Bhagawati, co-ordinator of PG department in Commerce, Dr Tanka Prasad Upadhyaya, co-ordinator as well as Dr Swapna Nath, secretary, women cell, ACTA central committee also delivered speeches during the function.
