DALGAON, Dec 31: Two journalists of Dalgaon – Abul Khayer, correspondent of The Hills Times from Dalgaon and Jasmot Ali, correspondent of a private satellite channel NK TV from Dalgaon were allegedly attacked by sand mafias on Tuesday while covering illegal sand mining news at Tangni River under Dalgaon PS of Darrang.
The news of the ongoing illegal mining was published in various print, electronic and digital platforms and various local organisations including Jagaran Mancha and AAMSU submitted a memorandum separately to district administration and Forest department to stop sand mining. On request of the locals, journalists Abul Khayer and Jasmot Ali visited the mining site where tractor drivers, owners gathered in large numbers and snapped their mobiles and abused and assaulted them physically. The gang destroyed one of the mobiles and looted them.
Dalgaon legislator Mazibur Rahman, Shah Alam, GS Jagaran Mancha, ASSP president Mahammad Ali Khalifa, AAMSU advisor Ainuddin Ahmed and vice president Abdur Rahman Biswash, president of Darrang MSUA Jahirul Islam, and many others condemned this attack and urged the administration to take necessary action. They further demanded to stop illegal sand mining at the river. FIR has been lodged at Dalgaon PS and surprisingly, the Dalgaon police has failed to nab the sand mafia gang even after 4 days of the attack.
