DEMOW, June 6: The All Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA), Demow branch, submitted two separate memorandums to the Demow circle officer on Thursday. In the memorandums, they stated that since 2019, in Athabari Tea Estate, a rig for oil digging was installed through Oil India Limited. They alleged that several bighas of tea plants were evicted for this purpose. Since then, the ATTSA, Demow branch, has been demanding various developments in the local areas. They stated that the development initiatives have been limited to documents, which has caused anxiety among the ATTSA, Demow branch. The memorandums outlined various demands that should be fulfilled at the earliest.
In another memorandum, the ATTSA, Demow branch, welcomed the announcement to construct the Sivasagar Medical College in the IID Centre under Demow Revenue Circle, Sivasagar district. However, they expressed concerns about the road infrastructure needed to access the medical college. Specifically, they highlighted the land acquisition process for the Maskara Tea Estate and the construction of another road. The ATTSA, Demow Branch, emphasised that, under the instruction of the ATTSA Central Committee, the land of the tea garden should not be used for road construction. Copies of the memorandum were submitted to the district commissioner of Sivasagar, the owner of Maskara Tea Estate, and the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Moran branch.
