DIBRUGARH, Aug 17:
The Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA) on Wednesday staged a protest in front of Dibrugarh deputy commissioner’s office against illegal land grabbing of poor tea garden workers.
ATTSA alleged that land mafia Lalit Dowerah and Dharmeshwar Dowerah of Jiliguri Goan of Lahowal constituency had illegally grabbed 6 bighas of Krishna Kurmi’s land.
The students’ body holding placards and banners raised slogans against the land mafia for illegal grabbing of the poor farmer’s land.
Lakhindra Kurmi, ATTSA, Dibrugarh secretary said, “Land mafia Lalit Dowerah and Dharmeshwar Dowerah had illegally grabbed Krishna Kurmi’s land. We have informed the incident to Dibrugarh deputy commissioner and on July 27, 2022, the deputy commissioner wrote a letter to east revenue circle officer of Dibrugarh to do an inquiry of the incident and submitted a report within seven days but till date the circle officer has not submitted any report.”
He said, “It was clear from the fact that the officials of district administration have a nexus with the land mafias and are helping them to grab land of the poor people. It seems that the circle officer didn’t even care about the deputy commissioner’s order.”
“We demand a proper inquiry into the incident and suspend the circle officer for negligence of duty. The deputy commissioner should take the matter seriously and immediately take action against the land mafias,” Kurmi asserted.
The students’ body submitted a memorandum to Dibrugarh deputy commissioner seeking his immediate intervention.
