JAGIROAD, June 1: The Jagiroad police and the fishery department, Morigaon in a joint operation on Saturday seized about one quintal of banned Thailand Mackerel from Jagibhakat gaon.

The banned fish was carrying in a mini truck bearing registration number AS 02 DC 3251. The fish was later buried under the supervision of the Morigaon District fisheries development officer Bhaskarjyoti Nath and Jagiroad police atation officer-in-charge Bhadreshwar Pegu and the accused was fined Rs 30000. It is worth mentioning that the production and rearing of the Thai Mackerel, Japanese carp/tilapia and bighead carp fry is punishable by law.
