District administration initiates fresh land survey at Batadrava

NAGAON, May 26: Nagaon Police have so far arrested 7 persons including two women in connection with the arson case that took place on the premises of Batadrava police station recently.
Besides, police detained as well as released over 14 persons after questioning, a high-level source said on Thursday.
Police arrested one accused person on Wednesday from a house in Bhumuraguri area. The arrested person had been absconding since the time of the incident, sources added.
Meanwhile, police have identified over 32 persons involved in the arson attack on the police station.
The arrested persons till Thursday, have been identified as Rofikul Islam (Salnabari), Mojibur Rahman (Salnabari), Anuwar Hussain (Solapothar), Sabina Khatun (Salnabari), Rashida Khatun (Salnabari) and Anowar Hussain (Hidoobi).
While speaking to this correspondent here on Thursday afternoon, the district police chief Leena Doley said that the Special Investigative Team (SIT) constituted by the police administration has started an investigation into the entire episode.
During investigation, it would analyse all possible angles of the incident, she said adding that based on the investigation report, the police will move for further legal proceedings.
Referring to the land encroachment in and around the Batadrava Than, the birthplace of great Vaishnavite Guru Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev, Doley said, “Police received information that many people among the attackers occupied as well as purchased government as well as Satra land with fake documents for which the administration decided to carry out a proper survey.”
Under directives of deputy commissioner Nagaon, the concerned government agencies had already started the survey of land in those disputed territories, she said.
Meanwhile, the district agriculture department also submitted a plea to the district administration as well as the police administration to clear over 50 bighas of land of Batadrava Agriculture Farm encroached by some suspected nationals.
In the plea submitted by district agriculture department, district agriculture officer Tarun Hazarika stated that over 50 families of a particular community as well as suspected nationals forcefully encroached over 50 bighas of land of the agriculture seed farm situated at Hidoobi near Batadrava Than and also destroyed the boundary walls of the agriculture farm and were trying to encroach more land of the farm at Hidoobi.
