Beena Patangia to receive Bhola Kalita Memorial Award

TEZPUR, Feb 7: Noted theatre and film actress Beena Patangia will be conferred the ‘Bhola Kalita Memorial Award’ on February 28 in Tezpur, marking the birth anniversary of theatre personality Bhola Kalita.

The award will be presented at 4 PM at the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan, organised by Tezpur Sahitya Sabha with Baan Theatre and the family of late Bhola Kalita. The award recognises Beena Patangia’s contribution to Assamese theatre and cinema.

A resident of Bam Bacheria, Tezpur, she began acting in Class VII and has acted in 12 feature films, 15 television serials and over 25 stage plays, including mobile theatres like Asomi Theatre and Kohinoor Theatre. She has received multiple Best Actress awards, including for Juye Pora Xon and the Jyoti Rupa Award for Be-Taal.

Her notable films include Kushal, Pakhi, Bandhon, Bhoga Khiriki, Juye Pora Xon, Jatinga Ityadi, Jangfai Jonak, Deuta Diya Biday, Seema: The Untold Story, Dai, Seujiya Patar Kahini, Chobua Tamolar Daag, Dipen Gandhi, Barasun, Rodor Paakhi and the yet-to-be-released Bhakutkut.

She has appeared in serials such as Be-Taal, Bhara Ghar, Uday Bhanu’r Charitra, Shiyali E Nahibi Rati, Ghar Jowai, Parashu Patar Naad, Ghar Sansar, Xonar Kharu Nelage Mok, Sendur, Shahu-Bowari, Umal Bukur Hazar Kahini, Beharbari Outpost, Aparadh, Enekoiye Bhagene Xopun, Barlakai and Deuta.

Her theatre journey began at Bishnujyoti Natya Mandir with Karengor Ligiri and since 1986 she has been a prominent performer at Baan Theatre in plays including Siraj, Kiyo, Emuthi Chaul, Rupalim, Bhogjora, Mulagabharu, Miri Jiyori, Sagarat Suryasta, Ulonga Nachan, Nabour Biya, Gaonburha, Sendur, Kaboror Kambal, Mahendra Master, Agnigarva, Lakhimi, Sariyahar Dulit Bhoot, Kalu Gunda, Phulan Devi, CID, Chilarai, Bastab, Dhritarashtra and Bharaghar.
