Bodo Sahitya Sabha Commemorates Subungthini Thandwi Martyr Bineswar Brahma

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 19: 
The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and Bodo community recalled the contributions of Subungthini Thandwi martyr Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha on his 22nd death anniversary at his burial place at Chandamari in Kokrajhar on Friday.
The anniversary was organised under the aegis of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) in association with Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust to mark the occasion.
Notably, Brahma was shot dead by an armed extremist at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati on August 19, 2000 when he was the president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha.
Brahma was a noted writer and one of the prominent intellectual, social thinkers of the Bodo community.
Brahma was deputy general manager in FCI for north-east region besides being the president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha when he was assassinated.
President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro hoisted the flag in half-mast followed by a homage to the tomb of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma. MLA of Kokrajhar East LAC, Lawrence Islary also paid floral tribute.
A one-minute silence condolence was observed on the occasion to mark the anniversary observation.
An open seminar on the contribution and life philosophy of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma was organised on the occasion with Toren Boro, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president in the chair.
Bodoland Territorial Region chief executive member Pramod Boro, Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, ABSU president Dipen Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary graced the event as chief guest and guest speakers respectively.
Leaders, peoples from all walks of life, apart from numerous organisations like Bodo Sahitya Sabha, ABSU, ABWWF, All Bodo Primary Teachers Association (ABPTA), Tribal Sangha participated on the occasion and paid floral tribute to late Brahma.
BTR CEM Boro said, “Today the Bodo community remembers Subungthini Thandwi martyr Bineswar Brahma. He was a social thinker and noted writer among the Bodos.”
He said that Subungthini Thandwi martyr Bineswar Brahma was the harbinger of peace in the region. He further added that late Brahma was an extraordinary leader of the sabha as well of the Bodo community. Despite a high official responsibility in FCI, Brahma dedicated his life for development and language upliftment of the Bodo community.
Minister Brahma while recalling contributions of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma on the anniversary, “Bineswar Brahma was a harbinger of peace among the Bodo peoples and devoted his life towards upliftment of the common masses. He had been stressed about the end of extremism incidents in the state.”
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro said, “Today the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust jointly observed the death anniversary and remembered his contributions in the field of Bodo language and literature.”
Among others, BTR executive members Ranjit Basumatary, Reoreoa Narzihary, Daobaisa Boro, retired principal of Kokrajhar Govt College Dr Surath Narzary, chairman of Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust Gopinath Borgoyary, ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary were prominent attendees in the event.
