Breastfeeding kiosk set up at Guwahati Railway Station

NFR celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

GUWAHATI, Aug 7: World Breastfeeding Week was observed in NF Railway. On this occasion, a breastfeeding kiosk was opened at Platform no.1 of the Guwahati Railway Station on Saturday. This breastfeeding kiosk will immensely benefit breastfeeding mothers during railway journeys. It will allow a mother to breastfeed her baby properly in a secured environment and in privacy. Besides that, the beautifully designed kiosk also has messages on the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits for public awareness. The kiosk was set up by the Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons in collaboration with Northeast Frontier Railway.
J P Singh, additional divisional railway manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Guwahati inaugurated the kiosk in presence of renowned Assamese film actress Nishita Goswami and other important personalities from railways and members of Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons.
In his address, J P Singh praised the effort of Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons which is a new chapter of Rotary International District 3240 in Guwahati and informed that another such kiosk will also be set up in Kamakhya Railway Station as well in coming days.
Renowned Assamese film actress Nishita Goswami in her speech stressed upon the importance of having such kiosks in public places and thanked the Railways and Rotary club for such an initiative.
The project chaired by Rotarian Dr Partha Pratim Borah also shared important information regarding World Breastfeeding Week and significance of breastfeeding. In his welcome address, club advisor and vice president Rudrajeet Laskar talked about the Rotary and about Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons while service project chair Sudha Laskar shared the purpose of setting up a breastfeeding kiosk at Railway Station. Club secretary Dipanjan Dasgupta, offered the vote of thanks after the event.
“This will be a great help, as it is convenient and easy to locate the breastfeeding room in Railway Station,” observed a mother with a newborn who arrived at the station to board a train.
Another awareness programme in connection with the World Breastfeeding Week was held on Friday at the NF Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon. Talks on the importance and benefits of breastfeeding were delivered by Dr B P Deka, Dr Anuradha Goswami, Dr Apurba Das, Dr Immanuel Tuolor and Dr Sunita Agarwal. A large number of railway beneficiaries attended the session. Later on, a session was also held at the indoor department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology ‘to educate & support breastfeeding’.
