District Magistrate Mridul Yadav issued the order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, citing concerns over possible infiltration, smuggling and other unauthorised cross-border activities.

Movement of individuals has been banned from sunset to sunrise within a one-kilometre stretch of the international border. Night-time movement on the River Surma and its high banks inside Indian territory has also been prohibited.

Fishing and boating on the Surma will be allowed only for local residents for personal use, subject to prior permission and monitoring. Transport of essential commodities has been restricted at night within a five-kilometre border belt.

Government officials on duty are exempted from the order.
