Cataract surgery camp held on 85th birth anniv of Prafulla Rajguru

JORHAT, Sept 6: On the occasion of 85th birth anniversary of Prafulla Rajguru, an eminent journalist, educationist and also the founder-president of Jorhat Press Club, a cataract surgery camp for 20 patients belonging to economically backward conditions was organised at the Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital on Monday.
The camp was held under the sponsorship of Rajguru’s family with support from Jorhat Press Club. Later in the day, a solemn function, presided over by Jorhat Press Club president Diganta Burahgohain was held at the Lions Eye Hospital in memory of Rajguru, who had passed away on March 27, 2019.
Tributes were paid in front of Rajguru’s portrait by Kabita Rajguru, wife of the eminent professor and others who attended the programme. Dr Tapan Dutta, who is also a retired professor of AAU and a veteran sports organiser, gave a brief account of life and activities of Rajguru, who after retirement as a professor from DCB Girls’ College, had worked in Dainik Janambhumi and later became the resident editor of Jorhat edition of ‘Amar Asom’.
BM Sharma, managing trustee of Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital, gave a presentation on the activities of the hospital. Dr Arun Pathak, a trustee, and Dr Bibhash Das an ophthalmologist of the hospital, along with Jorhat Club general secretary Pradip Bora, working president Santosh Kabra and other members of the club attended the function.
Biraj Baruah, an executive member of the Jorhat Press Club anchored the programme.
