CEM Lauds Contribution Of Diphu Parish In Education, Social Service

Golden Jubilee celebration of Diphu Parish, Catholic Church ends

DIPHU, May 8: The Diphu Parish, Catholic Church has made an immense contribution in the spread of education and rendering social service to the underprivileged section of people, said the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang. He attended as the chief guest on the concluding day of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Diphu Parish, Catholic Church at the Cathedral of the Risen Lord here on Sunday.

Diphu Parish Council; Diphu Parish, Katholic Nimarli Asong; Diphu Parish Karbi Katholic Sarmar Asong (DPKKSA) and Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) have jointly organised the Golden Jubilee celebration to commemorate the 50-year journey of Diphu Parish. It was a three day-long celebration that began on May 6 with the theme, ‘Thy kingdom come.’

The Diphu Don Bosco School was set up on March 4, 1969, and two years after the setting up of the school and in 1971 the Diphu Parish was set up. Fr. Jon Mariae came from Sojong to take charge as the Parish Priest of the new Diphu Parish.

The CEM, accompanied by executive member (EM), KAAC, Pradip Rongpi and MAC, Richard Tokbi were received at the entrance of the Cathedral of the Risen Lord and were escorted to the pandal. Karbi totem pole Jambili Athon accompanied by Karbi traditional drummers led the way to the celebration venue.

The jubilee committee felicitated the CEM with Karbi traditional turban, traditional jacket and Karbi traditional shawl. The committee also presented a memento as recognition for his participation in the jubilee celebration.

The CEM addressing the gathering said, “I was also a student of Don Bosco School, Sojong near Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong. At the preparatory level I studied there. I should say that the Don Bosco Schools under Catholic Church has immensely contributed to the spread of education in Karbi Anglong. They have also rendered social service amongst the underprivileged section of the society.”

Attributing the Catholic Church in the spread of education the CEM further said, “Where ever a Don Bosco School is set up there is educational upliftment. The Don Bosco Schools have produced many successful persons who could become doctors, engineers, academicians, politicians, social workers, civil servants, businessmen etc.”

The day being Mother’s Day, the CEM wished all the mothers present a happy Mother’s Day. He thanked the organisers for arranging the jubilee celebration and inviting him to be part of it.

Bishop of Diphu Diocese Rev. Paul Mattekatt in his homily during the Holy Mass celebration said the Catholics are not deep rooted in their faith and asked to strengthen their faith by celebrating this jubilee.

“By this jubilee celebration let us strengthen our faith by surrendering ourselves to God. By reading the Holy Bible, participating in holy mass and living by the teaching of the Holy Bible we can make our faith deeper,” Rev. Mattekatt said.

He also said it needs a change in character then the jubilee celebration would be meaningless. Rev. Mattekatt also unveiled the jubilee memorial stone.

The jubilee committee also felicitated the founding families, priests, nuns and Bishops who have contributed to Diphu Parish. As an honour to them, a memento and Karbi traditional turbans and jackets were presented to them.

The celebration was joined by priests, nuns and faithful from other Parishes. After the celebration programme a jubilee feast was arranged, which was partaken by all attendees.
