DIPHU, Oct 11: Chief executive member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang laid the foundation stone for construction of Karbi Students Association (KSA- Thomson Rongpi) office here on Tuesday.
The KSA Central Committee office building will be constructed with a cost of Rs 1 crore through funds which will be provided by the council.
Later, the CEM participated in the leadership training programme organised by KSA, Diphu District Committee on the topic, ‘Creation of Autonomous State under Article 244(A) through peaceful democratic process’.
While addressing the programme, the CEM stressed on the need for various factions of KSA to unite.
He said, “I always appeal that different factions of KSA should join hands. The Karbi Cultural Society also has a history of being divided. There were two groups. Later, another cultural organisation by the name Karbi Jutang Chingthur Amei (KJCA) was born. With much convincing and efforts the KJCA could be dissolved and merged with KCS. Now there is only one KCS and only one Karbi Youth Festival. For a common cause like border and Autonomous State issues the KSA should be one.”
Earlier, the former executive member, KAAC and former leader of KSA, Chomang Kro said that with too many factions, KSA cannot serve the society.
EM, KAAC and former propaganda secretary of the KSA, Surjya Rongphar also said that he was an active member of KSA from his school days to college education. The emergence of the armed organisation Karbi National Volunteers (KNV) was from the KSA office.
“I played an active role in KSA from my school days to my education in Diphu Govt. College. I was later appointed as the Propaganda Secretary in the central committee. It was from this Central Committee office and Serdihun Girls Hostel that the idea of forming an armed group KNV came up. In its initiation, the KSA, Central Committee office became a base camp of the KNV,” Rongphar said.
MLA Dorsing Ronghang; EM, KAAC, Amarsing Tisso; assistant general secretary, Atursing Teron; finance secretary, Longkiri Engti; KSA adviser, Laichan Engleng; president, KSA, Thomson Rongpi and general secretary, Sumit Timung were present on the occasion.
