SIVASAGAR, July 30: The closing ceremony of the premier amateur theatre group Natyapeeth of Sivasagar began with a glittering cultural program in Amolapatty Hindu Dharma Namghar on Friday. Dr. Nilakhi Borgohain, the out-going president, Natyapeeth, along with 24 other cultural workers hosted flags in front of the Namghar while Dr. Dilip Baruah, president, lit the light and paid floral tributes to academy award winner playwright Harendranath Borthakur, who was considered as a fountain-head of inspiration for Natyapeeth.
The souvenir ‘Natyapeeth’, edited by Dr. Anil Saikia, and ‘Bisoy: Sishunat, written by Prasanta Sarma were released by noted litterateur Khagendranath Bhuyan in the inaugural function. Prasanta Sarma presented a brief description of the journey of the amateur group over a quarter of a century. Prof Dilip Das, Amar Mahanta, Jugal Bora, Purnima Borgohain, Pankaj Kalita, Shantanu Chetia, Shantanu Dutta, Himadrijyoti Dutta, Hareza Begum, Uday Dutta, Mrinal Mahanta, Debabrat Borthakur, Muktab Hussain, Dilip Saikia, Diganta Baruah, Madhov Borthakur, Dr. Uaday Rajkonwar, Jintu Dutta, Kalyani Borbaruah, Sanjeeb Bora, Dr. Abani Sarma and other members of Natyapeeth took part in the inaugural function. The photo gallery, capturing the critical moments in the 25 –year journey of Natyapeeth was inaugurated by Aswini Kumar Doley, CEO, Jila Parishad, Sivasagar.

The evening cultural programme was inaugurated with an hour-long classical dance recital presented by dance exponents Bismilla Khan Award winner Seujpriya Borthakur, Sangeet Natak Academy award winner Anita Sarma and noted artist Rupa Rani Das Bora. It was followed by the stage performance of the popular children’s2 play ‘Rajar Deul’ written by Harendranath Borthakur.
