GUWAHATI, Oct 2: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the ceremonial collection of
soil from villages at Gaon Panchayat under the Amrit Kalash Yatra, a component of the ongoing
”Meri Maati, Mera Desh” campaign, at an event held at Dharapur locality in Guwahati on Monday.
Meri Maati, Mera Desh is a nation-wide campaign called upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to
remember the martyred bravehearts who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting
the honour and integrity of the nation.
Speaking at the event, Sarma said the nation has attained many feats in the 75 years of
Independence and it is apt that Bharat now attains its rightful position of a world leader on all fronts.
”With this objective in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon every citizen of India to
celebrate the years leading to 2047 — the 100th year of Independence — as the Amrit Kaal,” Sarma
said, adding that Meri Maati, Mera Desh campaign is a part of that very Amrit Kaal.
Sarma further said it is a matter of immense pride that every household have come out
wholeheartedly with a handful of soil under the Meri Maati, Mera Desh campaign which will
eventually be used to build an ”Amrit Udyaan” near the War Memorial in New Delhi.
He also expressed great satisfaction at the overwhelming support the Meri Maati, Mera Desh and
Amrit Kalash Yatra campaigns have managed to garner across the nooks and corners of the state.
”Soils collected in the campaigns in the State would also be utilised to build a number of public
institutions at Panchayat, Block, etc. levels. They would also be utilized during the construction of
the proposed University to be named after martyr of the Freedom movement Kanaklata Baruah at
Gohpur,” he added.
Referring to the 75 years of the nation’s journey after Independence as one that was tough but
eventful, Sarma lauded the indomitable sprite of the countrymen, sprite severe adversarial
conditions that led to the nation attaining a leading position at many fields such as science and
technology, economic growth, military strength, among others.
The chief minister exuded confidence under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the
country would script new chapters of success and glory in every field in days to come.
