MANGALDAI, Sept 18: Deomornoi Degree College observed World Ozone Day with an awareness programme organised by the Department of Geography on September 16.
The event was inaugurated by principal Dr Gitali Kalita, who lit the ceremonial lamp and, in her address, stressed the dangers of ozone layer depletion.
She urged collective efforts to reduce the use of substances harmful to the environment.
Assistant professor of Economics Bijoy Kumar Baruah delivered a lecture on this year’s theme, “From Science to Global Action,” highlighting the causes and consequences of ozone depletion and global conventions such as Vienna, Montreal, Paris, and Kigali.
Assistant Professor of Political Science Mainul Hoque discussed the geopolitical dimensions of tackling challenges like climate change, global warming, and ozone depletion.
More than 300 students, faculty members, and staff participated in the event.
Arup Kumar Sarma, Head of the Department of Geography, anchored the programme, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor of Geography Brindaban Sarma.
