Diamond jubilee of GCC concludes with grand alumni meet

GUWAHATI, Sept 11: The premier commerce college of north-eastern region, Gauhati Commerce College celebrated its Diamond Jubilee which concluded with an alumni meet at the college premises.
The day-long programme was attended by more than 1600 alumni. The programme started at 11 am with the hoisting of flag by principal Dr Homeswar Kalita and Alcom president Aneel Goenka in the presence of the mayor of Guwahati Mrigen Sarania and Sahitya Academy awardee Diganta Biswa Sharma, followed by ‘swahid tarpan’ at the Swahid Bedi, homages were paid to the founder principal Dr. B. C. Lahkar and to the teachers and the students.
The official meeting started with the lighting of lamp by the inaugurator Diganta Biswa Sharma in the presence of Ashok Singhal, Cabinet minister, Government of Assam, who also happens to be the member of GCC Alumni. President of Alcom, Aneel Goenka and secretary Jayanta Talukdar felicitated the distinguished guests with Assamese gamosa, badge, shawl, letter of appreciation, memento and a token of regard.
Later, Pallab Lochan Das, Member of Parliament joined the ceremony and was felicitated by Team Alcom. President of Alcom, Aneel Goenka in his presidential address urged the GCC principal with a demand to have a representative of Alcom in the College Governing Body and also to provide a premise for a full-time office at the campus. He also laid out his plan and program towards taking Alcom to a greater height in the next 3 years. He also assured to publish the Alcom directory with new added members. He also informed that the society registration of Alcom is completed and the Alcom website is functional. He also promised to arrange an alumni meet every year without fail.
Diganta Biswa Sarma addressed the alumni and stressed on creating job creators from the college, instead of creating job seekers. Pallab Lochan Das said he feels nostalgic after coming to his own college as guest of honour. He also assured that he will be extending his support from the Government for the betterment of GCC campus. He also assured to do the needful to get a place for Alcom members in the Governing Body.
The chief guest of the program, Ashok Singhal, minister, Assam addressed the audience and said that he is excited and proud to visit his college as chief guest. He also urged upon the college and Alcom to utilise the evening timings after the college for orientation and personality development programs with some visiting faculties. This is the best way to utilise the infrastructure readily available for such a purpose.
Minister Singhal also requested to arrange programs in short intervals, and he also assured that he will definitely attend. He also promised help and support from the Government, under the leadership of State CM Himanta Biswa Sarama to the college.
Later, the senior alumni were felicitated and the session concluded with the vote of thanks by secretary Jayanta Talukdar.
