DIBRUGARH, July 31: Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Saturday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) have done some modification for the smooth functioning for the upcoming polls.
Addressing a press conference here, Biswajit Pegu said, “If you are 17 years old and waiting to turn 18 in order to get a Voter-ID. In a first, the 17-year-old youngsters will be able to apply in advance for having their names enrolled in voters list and not necessarily have to await the pre-requisite criterion of attaining the age of 18 years on the 1st January of a year.”
The DC further said, “ECI has directed the CEOs/EROs/AEROs of all states to work out tech-enabled solutions such that the youth are facilitated to file their advance applications with reference to three subsequent qualifying dates i.e. 1st April, 01st July and 01st October and not just 1st January.”
“Linking of Aadhar number with voters list has been made. But if someone doesn’t want to share their Aadhar number or doesn’t have an Aadhar card then he/she should provide more documents,” DC informed.
He said, “A new form 6(B) has also been introduced for collecting Aadhar number of the existing electors. From November 9, 2022 to December 8, 2022, one can file claims and objections and on January 5,2023, the final draft of the voters list will be published.”
Dibrugarh district election officer Hrishikesh Baruah was present during the press conference.
