TEZPUR, Nov 18: A team from the Enforcement Directorate carried out a raid at the residence and office of Tezpur-based AAP leader Rishiraj kaundinya from around 6:30 this morning, prompting public curiosity across the town. The operation began at his home in Kalibari and continued till evening, with officials maintaining strict silence on what they were looking for.
Kaundinya, who previously contested the 2024 Sonitpur Lok Sabha seat as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate and serves as the vice-president of Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal, has been active in Tezpur politics in recent years. Known earlier as a businessman, he has emerged as a prominent figure in the region and is considered a likely contender for the 2026 Tezpur Assembly seat.
Police sources said the district police were not informed about the raid in advance. Several old complaints and cases against Koundinya exist, though the ED has not disclosed whether they are linked to today’s search. Journalists attempting to access the location were blocked by ED personnel and accompanying central armed forces.
At the time of filing this report, the raid was still underway, with no official statement issued so far. The sudden ED action at Kaundinya’s residence has triggered wide reactions among residents, who continue to wait for clarity on the developments.
