SILCHAR, June 13: The Assam State Election Commission has notified the schedule for the preparation, updation and publication of ward-wise electoral rolls for the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election.
The notification follows the constitution of the Silchar Municipal Corporation by the Government of Assam under the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
The corporation comprises 42 wards, and the electoral roll preparation process will be undertaken for all wards in accordance with the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022.
According to the schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on June 29, 2026. Claims and objections regarding the draft rolls can be submitted up to July 6, while the disposal of claims and objections has been scheduled for completion by July 13.
The final electoral rolls for all 42 wards will be published on July 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, a training programme for Registration Officers (ROs) was conducted at the Old Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office in Silchar on Friday as part of preparations for the municipal election.
The training sessions were conducted by Cachar District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy and Election Officer Masi Topno.
The officers provided detailed guidance on the legal provisions, prescribed procedures and responsibilities associated with the preparation and revision of electoral rolls, stressing the importance of maintaining a transparent, accurate and error-free voter database.
Officials informed that the electoral rolls will be prepared on the basis of the Assembly Electoral Roll in force, with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.
The process will be carried out in accordance with Rules 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022.
The Assam State Election Commission has also notified the appointment of Registration Officers for the respective wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
Citizens have been urged to verify their details in the draft electoral rolls and submit claims or objections, if necessary, within the stipulated period to ensure the preparation of an accurate and updated voter list for the upcoming municipal election.
