NAGAON, May 4: As part of road safety drive, the enforcement teams from Nagaon district transport department intensified a massive drive against the dumpers across the district and also tried to lessen the possibility of accidents on road in the district since Tuesday last.
Sources from Nagaon district transport department said that during the drive, the enforcement officials from department concerned had checked the documents of the vehicles, insurance, driving licences, overload as well as speed limit whether they were being maintained as per motor vehicle act or not.
It was alleged that many of such dumpers without proper documents or update, were being used for carrying stone, earth, sand, gravel and other materials across the district and such dumpers created panic among the pedestrians, riders of two-wheeler, three-wheeler on road. Besides, these dumpers scarcely had maintained the rules and other official instructions on the road ensured by the department concerned due to which the number of accidents on road had been increased in the district.
While speaking to this correspondent on Thursday afternoon here, Sunit Kr Bora, DTO, Nagaon, said that owners of many dumpers floated the rules and other guidelines ensured by the department concerned and engaged these dumpers in carrying forest materials as well as others across the district.
Besides, it is witnessed that the drivers of these dumpers have rarely followed the speed limit on the road which apparently poses a threat to the pedestrians or riders of two wheeler and three wheeler, he said, adding that the department concerned would leave no stone unturned to bring them under control. We are taking lawful action against those floaters and are also imposing penalties as per instructions of the government, he added.
