SIVASAGAR, Jan 3: Fishing and other anthropogenic activities in and around the Ahom era natural zoo — historic Pahugarh in Jaysagar — have been prohibited under Section 144 . The Sivasagar District administration, through a release signed by Sabyasachi Kashya today, banned picnic, drinking wine, use of loudspeakers,, fishing and hunting of migratory birds which may harm the birds habitat in the area famous for its annual congregation of large numbers of migratory waterfowls.
Excavated during the reign of Ahom ruler Rudra Singh, the environ of numerous ponds have been disturbed owing to picnic, illegal fishing, hunting of migratory birds, drinking alcohol by a section.
This ban is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice. The district administration further said that punitive action will be taken against those who violate the order under Section 188 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).
