DIBRUGARH, July 13: The Floods situation in Dibrugarh improved marginally on Saturday with water level started receding, reducing the affected population to 12537 in 64 villages in the district.
âAt least 64 villages were still affected with 12537 population. 821 inmates are taking shelter at 11 relief camps. 2377.5 hectares of crop land were affected,â said an ASDMA report.
For nine consecutive days, Dibrugarh town remained under water due to the overflowing of Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) Drain. But now the situation improved and things have come to normal.
Most of the roads were damaged in Dibrugarh town and other areas. Public are having a harrowing time due to the damaged of the roads.
The Dibrugarh Municipal Coorporation (DMC) have started cleaning the drains.
âMost of the drains were clogged due to dumping of garbage and we have cleaning the drains. We appeal everyone not to dump garbages in drains,â said an official of DMC.
He further added, âEncroachment of DTP drain is the main reason of urban flooding. The drain has been encroached by public and some private hospital which resulting in waterlogging and urban flooding.â
