Folk musician Mukanda Madhav Bora passes away

JORHAT, Jan 31: Mukanda Madhav Bora, a renowned folk musician and music scholar from Baligaon, passed away on 30 January at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital following an ailment.

In his early fifties, Bora is survived by his wife, son and a large circle of relatives and well-wishers. He was a versatile musician, skilled in playing and crafting almost all traditional musical instruments and was also an accomplished sculptor.

Bora gained recognition through performances in India and abroad and organised workshops to mentor upcoming folk musicians. He received several awards for his research on folk music instruments. His demise has been widely mourned.
