GUWAHATI, May 23: After several protests and objections from the public, the Forest department has started to transplant around some 150 trees of several species by adopting a technique in order to save trees from felling due to highway expansion.
The Forest department with association with NHAI for the first has transplanted two numbers of trees successfully from NH-37 to the campus of Guwahati Biotech Park, Amingaon, Kamrup (Rural) on May 20. Two trees were uprooted as the procedure and transported to the venue for the ceremonial plantation programme for CM of Assam in presence of chief guest and other invited dignitaries.
The whole process has been executed by Guwahati Range under Kamrup East Division as per the direction of DFO Kamrup East Division with collaborative effort of construction company DVL Group under NHAI, Govt of India.
Dhariwal Buildtech Limited (DVL) construction company has provided all logistics support.
All total 100 trees below the girth of 70 cm have been selected from NH 37 from Jalukbari to Khnapara for transplantation which are being treated by a team of Guwahati Range led by range officer Pranjal Baruah under the supervision of DFO Rohini Ballav Saikia since April, 2022. The trees, after development of a new root system, have been re- planted in an experimental plot that has already been prepared at the Kamrup East Division Campus by adopting all necessary care and technical measures to increase the survival of trees to be transplanted in the current season.
So far the forest department has rescued and transplanted 27 nos of trees on an experimental basis. This will certainly pave the way in conserving trees which are otherwise axed for widening of the roads and other development projects.
