NALBARI, April 18: Tributes were paid to Bhumidhar Barman, former chief minister of Assam on his first death anniversary on Monday at Belsor village in Nalbari district. On the occasion, while inaugurating the statue of Bhumidhar Barman installed at Bhakatram Sishu Udyan, famous educationist and writer Dr. Dayananda Pathak explained that Barman was a friend of poor people and was very famous among the masses. In the meeting, a souvenir namely ‘Dinabandhu’ was inaugurated by noted senior journalist Haidar Hussain.
Hussain explained about the colourful life of Barman. Speaking in the meeting, Naresh Kalita, editor Niomiya Barta said that Barman was not only a political figure but he was also a popular name in work culture. Abdul Khalek, veteran member of lok sabha said that the lifestyle of Barman was in itself a lesson in how to remain true to one’s roots. Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia also added that Barman was a very faithful person and he was determined in the rules of his own political party’s idea though he faced many obstacles in life but progressed by solving public grievances smoothly. In the meeting, Ramani Barman, former education minister; Dr Pramod Haloi, president district senior citizen organisation spoke about the life of Bhumidhar Barman.
