Former Assam Sahitya Sabha GS Dr Amal Rajkhowa passes away

JORHAT, Oct 7: Former general secretary of Assam Sahitya Sabha and a noted writer and translator Dr Amal Rajkhowa passed away at JMCH on Thursday night.
He was 81. Dr Rajkhowa, a resident of Number 2 Brahmangaon, Kenduguri here, leaves behind his wife, a son and many relatives.
Author of over 30 books, Dr Rajkhowa, also a retired vice-principal of Jorhat College (Amalgamated), was a columnist in different newspapers and magazines published from Assam.
He had translated a number of Sanskrit poetry and other literary works into Assamese. Dr Rajkhowa was also a former president of Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha and was associated with several literary and cultural organisations.
His demise has been widely mourned by many organisations and bodies. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma too expressed grief over Rajkhowa’s passing away and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
His body was brought to the central office of Assam Sahitya Sabha here on Friday morning where people paid their last respects
