Former JMB ward commissioner sent to judicial custody

JORHAT, Oct 15: Former ward commissioner of Jorhat Municipal Board (Ward No 6) and businessman Ankur Gupta was sent to judicial custody on Saturday, on charges of assaulting a female reporter and snatching mobile phones from two other male reporters working in local news portals here on Thursday night at Kachori Gali.
The woman reporter alleged that she received an injury on her arm when she was reportedly pushed by Gupta when they went for reporting for Diwali celebrations.
Gupta has been booked under sections 341, 354, 294 and 506 IPC in one case (No:812/22) lodged by Pranjal Das and Saurav Chakravarty and under sections 354, 325 and 506 IPC in the other case (No: 814/22) lodged by Priyanka Senapaty, the female reporter.
The AJYCP, AAP, Jorhat Press Club and several other organisations have condemned the incident.
