Bilasipara, Oct 19: As part of the rituals, the foundation pillar (laikhuta) for the festival was ceremonially installed at the Indra Narayan Academy playground with full religious fervor. Women from the locality, carrying earthen pots filled with sacred soil from the Raas venue, took out a traditional procession through the main roads of the town, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of dhak, dhol, and uruli, before arriving at the historic Maa Mahamaya Temple.
From the temple courtyard’s sacred well, they collected holy water and returned to the Raas venue. The collected water was then used for the purification of the laikhuta, performed with Vedic mantras. Following this, the committee members and attendees installed the ceremonial pillar amid the beats of drums, uruli, and chanting.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Ashok Kumar Singhi, president of the main organizing committee, stated that all arrangements have been made to celebrate the 66th edition of the Raas Mahotsav with a colorful 15-day program, beginning on 5 November.

The organizers announced that the historic main stage of this year’s Bilasipara Raas Mela will be dedicated to late artist Zubeen Garg, and a special memorial night program will be organized in his honor. This was confirmed by Raas Committee President Ashok Kumar Das and General Secretary Sanjay Sharma.
It was also revealed that, under the initiative of former MLA Ashok Kumar Singhi, steps have been taken to install a statue of Zubeen Garg in Bilasipara, with the consent of his family.
Additionally, the entire Raas Mela venue will be adorned with photographs of Zubeen Garg to pay heartfelt tribute to the beloved artist, said Sanjay Sharma, General Secretary of the Raas Mela Celebration Committee.
