NAGAON, Jan 17: The four-day annual cultural festival of Sutradhar, a premier performing arts institution of Nagaon, concluded successfully, captivating audiences with a vibrant celebration of dance and music at the district library auditorium.
Themed “A colourful journey of dance from Srimanta Sankardev to Zubeen Garg,” the programme traced the cultural and artistic legacy of Assam through expressive dance presentations.
Under the guidance of dance gurus Gaurav Kumar Hazarika and Murchana Mahanta, Sutradhar’s artistes portrayed the lives and contributions of revered personalities such as Srimanta Sankardev, Parvati Prasad Barua, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Khagen Mahanta and Zubeen Garg, among others.
The festival was inaugurated on the first day by Dilip Bora, Principal of Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, in the presence of Rupak Sarma, MLA from the Nagaon-Batadrova constituency, Anowar Parbhez, Principal of Delhi Public School, Nagaon, scriptwriter Dipak Bora and other dignitaries.
On the second day, Apurba Das, Principal of Nagaon Central School, and Dhananjay Talukdar, Accounts and Programme Officer, My Bharat Kendra, Nagaon, attended the event as guests of honour.
A special highlight of the programme was the mesmerising dance presentation dedicated to Zubeen Garg, which received prolonged applause from the audience.
During the festival, 19 students were honoured with the title ‘Nrityadharak’ and nine students with ‘Nrityabahak’ in recognition of their outstanding performances. Debangshu Borah was awarded the Best Student of 2025.
The audience appreciated the technical finesse of the performances, including stage décor, costumes and overall presentation.
The successful conclusion of the festival once again underscored Sutradhar’s commitment to promoting performing arts and conveying meaningful social and cultural messages through dance.
