Fraudster arrested

NAGAON, Feb 21: Nagaon police arrested one fraudster identified as Sankumoni Goswami on Monday night, from Haibargaon Khutikatia area who allegedly collected ransom money in the name of Nagaon police from a wanted drug peddler.

Sources claimed that the fraudster demanded Rs 1 lakh from the family of a wanted drug peddler only to provide him safeguard a few weeks back. The family of the drug peddler paid Rs 60,000 to the fraudster a few days ago.

When the family of the peddler intimated senior officials of Nagaon police about the monetary transaction with Sankumoni Goswami, it came to the notice of Nagaon police and police immediately launched a drive against the fraudster during which the police were finally able to arrest him from his Khutikatia residence on Monday night, sources added further.

Police registered a case in this regard and further investigation is on, sources said.
