Freedom fighter Hari Prasad Mishra passes away

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 5: Freedom fighter Hari Prasad Mishra, a permanent resident of Samar Dalani village under Sootea police station breathed his last on Thursday morning at his residence due to old age-related ailments. He was 98.
Mishra was born on October 22, 1925 to Late Gouri Kanta Mishra and Leelawati Mishra at Major Aati Nepali Gaon (presently known as Samar Dalani) of undivided Darrang district. The unsung hero of the freedom movement was honoured with a Political Sufferers’ Pension by the state government from 1994. The 13th President of India, Pranab Mukherjee also felicitated the senior most freedom hero on August 9, 2016 along with other freedom heroes of the National Movement at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also graced the felicitation programme.
The freedom fighter breathed his last in the early hours of morning on Thursday. A number of organisations and individuals including the historic Barechahariya Bhaona Committee, Senior Citizen’s Forum, Sootea, Naduar Revenue Circle Office, Sootea Development Block, Sootea Nagarik Mancha, All Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Gorkha Sammelan, All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union, Sootea Municipal Board, Jamuguri Municipal Board, Sootea Press Club, No 3 Sootea GP, Dakhin Nagsankar GP, Alok, Dakhin Nagsankar HS paid rich tributes to the mortal remains at his residence.
Later, his body was taken to historic Sootea police station wherein Biswanath SP Navin Singh, police personnel of Sootea PS, Chatia HSS, Sootea Mandal BJP, AASU Sootea paid their tribute. His body was also brought to the office premises of Nagsankar HSS, Nagsankar Samabay Samiti, Alok wherein the members of the concerned organisations paid rich tributes.
At last, his body was brought to his Samar Dalani residence, wherein Pallab Lochan Das, MP, Tezpur HPC, Deva Kumar Mishra, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur, Munindra Nath Nagatey, Biswanath DC, Navin Singh, SP, Biswanath, Kamal Kumar Gupta, commandant of 12th AP Battalion, Pankaj Nagbangshi, ADC, Sonitpur, Liza Talukdar, Biswajit Saikia, ADC’s Biswanath attended the wreath laying ceremony. The last rite was performed as per the state honour.
Freedom fighter Hari Prasad Mishra leaves behind a son, a daughter along with a host of relatives. His death was widely mourned in Sootea, Nagsankar, Jamugurihat and Biswanath area.
