This proactive measure aims to prevent dishonest businessmen from adulterating sweets ahead of Diwali, ensuring public health concerns are addressed under Margherita co-district of Tinsukia district.

A team led by Arunima Bora, laboratory technician from the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India, Tinsukia district, inspected several hotels in Margherita, where they collected sweet samples for testing. On-site testing revealed adulteration in some of the sweets.

However, final actions against the accused hotels will be determined only after the test reports are sent to Guwahati and reviewed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Department there.

The general public of Margherita has welcomed this initiative taken by the district’s Food Safety Department. The people have also requested that measures be taken against food adulteration more frequently throughout the year, instead of just once or twice.
