Tezpur Cancer Centre marks 4th Foundation Day

ACCF facility reports rising patient load, launches awareness initiatives

TEZPUR, April 29: Tezpur Cancer Centre, a unit of the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), celebrated its 4th Foundation Day on Tuesday, marking four years of transformative work in cancer care delivery across Assam and the Northeast. The foundation was established on 28 April 2022 with the inauguration of its first set of seven cancer hospitals by the Prime Minister of India and Ratan Tata. Over the last four years, ACCF has expanded access to affordable and quality cancer treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Medical Superintendent of Tezpur Cancer Centre Dr (Major) DJ Borah reiterated the foundation’s commitment to ensuring that no patient in Assam has to travel far for quality cancer treatment. He highlighted that as of date, 4,123 new cancer patients have been registered, with an OPD footfall of 33,137 patients. A total of 1,139 cancer patients have undergone radiotherapy treatment and 12,939 chemotherapy sessions have been completed. Dr Sanjeev Kr Gupta, Senior Radiation Oncologist and Head of the Radiation Department at Tezpur Cancer Centre, shared a presentation on cervical cancer prevention, treatment and the importance of HPV vaccination.

As part of the event, ACCF released its official awareness campaign song composed and sung by Rupam Bhuyan, with music by Priyanku Bordoloi and lyrics by Sasanka Samir, aimed at resonating with communities across Assam and inspiring collective action against cancer. The second volume of ‘Pratyusha’, ACCF’s multilingual magazine was also unveiled by dignitaries during the programme. The publication documents ACCF’s ongoing initiatives, features patient stories of courage and recovery and highlights the collaborative efforts of doctors, caregivers, government and civil society in transforming cancer care delivery.

The dignitaries present at the event included Prof (Dr) Rupam Borgohain, Medical Superintendent of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Dr Shafikul Islam, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Dr Dwipen Mahanta, IMA president, Tezpur branch, Dr Amar Jyoti Hazarika, Director of Narayana Super Specialty Hospital and heads of various departments of TMCH. The event concluded with a pledge to build on the progress of the last four years and work towards a cancer-free future.
