Gaide-Helena remembered

KOKRAJHAR, May 12: 
Chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial and (BTR) and UPPL president Pramod Boro paid homage to martyr Gaide-Helena (Gaide Basumatary & Helena Basumatary) on their death anniversary which was observed on Friday at Gaide-Helena tomb, Soraibil in Kokrajhar district.
Notably, Gaide Basumatary and Helena Basumatary, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Bodoland Movement on May 12, 1988 and since then Bodo community has been observing their death anniversary every year on May 12.
Both were regarded as the first Bodo women martyrs amongst the Bodo society during the Bodoland Movement.
Boro while remembering the contributions of martyr Gaide-Helena, on their death day, said that the Bodo community will keep alive their ideology and remember their sacrifice during the Bodoland movement.
