Gauhati University Varsity Week ends successfully

GUWAHATI, April 4: The week long Gauhati University Varsity Week held from March 28 ended successfully on April 3. Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, vice chancellor, Gauhati University inaugurated the Varsity Week by hoisting the Gauhati University flag which was followed by a march past at the university Sports Complex on March 28. All the Post Graduate Students’ Union members successfully conducted their respective events during the Varsity Week. On the last day, a colourful cultural rally was taken out showcasing different arts and cultures of Assam and the north-east. In the prize distribution ceremony, Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, vice chancellor, Gauhati University, Dr HK Nath, registrar, Gauhati University, Dr RK Kakati, director, Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University, Sankar Jyoti Baruah, general secretary, AASU, Hemen Kalita, president, PGSU, Gauhati University and Biki Sarma, general secretary, PGSU, Gauhati University graced the closing ceremony as guests and gave away the prizes to the winners of various events. The winners are Jyotirupa Sarma – best singer, Hridayananda Nath – 2nd best singer, Abinash Saikia – best actor, Kasturi Shivam – best actress, Dengkhw Brahma – best athlete, Urmila Borgohain – best athlete, Harshajit Kalita – best literary, Mriganka Bania – best fine arts, etc. The program ended with the performance of noted singer Prabin Das and Achurjya Borpatra during the cultural night.
