GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi paid rich floral tributes at the statue of Bir Lachit at Lachit Park in the city on the occasion of 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan on Thursday.
It may be noted that in view of the 400th birth anniversary of the great Ahom General, the state government undertook a year-long programme which was inaugurated by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “Lachit Borphukan was a great warrior and an eminent historical figure of Assam who played a significant role in shaping our culture and civilisation. His celebrated victory over the Mughals will forever remain a matter of great pride for every Assamese.”
The Governor also said that his prodigious legacy and legendary acts of bravery should be a great source of inspiration for every Indian. He also hoped the observance of the birthday of the great like Lachit will give the younger generation an opportunity to get themselves abreast with the rich legacy that the commander had left behind.
