GUWAHATI, Aug 14: Gauhati University NSS Cell celebrated International Youth Day (IYD) at the university campus on Friday. Inaugurating the programme Dr Ranjan Kr. Kakati, director, Students’ Welfare & Programme Coordinator, NSS, Gauhati University said that the objective of the International Youth Day is to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) and leave no one behind.
Dr Kakati explains about this year’s theme of IYD ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages’ and role of NSS volunteers to play to achieve targets for sustainable development. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Dipak Kumar, regional director, NSS, North Eastern Region, Guwahati said, “Intergenerational activities can also lead to a greater sense of social connectedness and strengthen intergenerational solidarity. Solidarity across generations is the key for sustainable development.” Dipak Kumar explained all the 17 sustainable development goals and the role of NSS functionaries to work on it. Dr Rituparna Bora, NSS, PO, GU campus NSS Unit offered the vote of thanks. About 100 NSS Programme officers and NSS volunteers participated in the program.
